Abstract:
Argues that T.S. Eliot's antisemitism is implicit in the image of the rat in "The Waste Land, " which reflects the poet's view of the Jew as an anti-poetic barbarian. Claims that Eliot was influenced by Charles Maurras and Richard Wagner. Finds a common thread of antisemitism in the modernisms of Eliot and of the Black American Marxist poet Langston Hughes, despite considerable differences in their views.

On T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land".
