Kurzfassung:
Discusses the image of the Jew as representative of the threatening "Other" amongst the radical Right in Europe, especially in the interwar period. The peculiar nature of the threatening otherness of the Jew was his adaptability; he was not easily recognizable in his otherness. The perception of a convergence of the most extreme difference in essence and the complete sameness in appearance was totally threatening. After the Communist Revolution there was a wide acceptance of the notion of a "Jewish conspiracy" aiming at the destruction of Christianity and of traditional European civilization. This explains the impact of Nazism on German conservatives and on wide segments of European societies. Relates, also, to the image of the Jew amongst the radical Right in England (e.g. Nesta Webster) and in France (e.g. Georges Bernanos).
