Abstract:
Based on surveys conducted in Germany in the 1990s-early 2000s, discusses latent antisemitism there, mostly in the form of anti-Zionism, but also as "secondary" antisemitism, which accuses the Jews of using the Holocaust for financial gain. More direct forms of antisemitism are still considered taboo in Germany, but indirect forms are fairly widespread. In one survey, only 20% of the respondents agreed with classical antisemitic statements, but 68.3% said that Israel was carrying out a "war of destruction" against the Palestinians, with many comparing Israeli policies to those of the Nazis. Disagrees with the accepted view that only 15-20% of Germans are antisemitic, and contends that the percentage is actually much higher.
