Abstract:
Discusses the anti-Zionism of the New Left in Germany, citing Jewish intellectuals who see in it a disguised form of antisemitism. States that condemnation of Israel's policy toward the Palestinians does indeed serve many functions, among them relativization of the Holocaust and exculpation for Germany. It can be used as a socially-accepted outlet for underlying antisemitic attitudes, and echoes stereotypes such as that of the Jewish conspiracy. However, this is not always the case; anti-Zionism may also be part of a more universal ideology of anti-imperialism that is not directed specifically against Jews.
