Abstract: Notes that interest in the implications of the Holocaust, expecially for education, as well as the observance of Holocaust anniversaries, has increased greatly in recent years - nationally, in the EU, and in the UN. Simultaneously, however, there has been an increase in antisemitism. With antisemitism still taboo in Germany since the Holocaust, this "new antisemitism" uses criticism of Israel's actions against the Palestinians to justify itself. The media's disproportionate treatment of the Arab-Israeli conflict favors this trend. Polls in Germany show that condemnation of Israel and resentment at reminders of German guilt for the Holocaust often, though not always, correlate with traditional antisemitism. Among Muslim immigrants, antisemitism is particularly strong. Antisemitic and xenophobic incidents have multiplied throughout Europe. Contends that the answer to this problem is more and improved teaching and a rethinking of policy by the media.
