Kurzfassung:
A central motif of conspiracy theory in the interwar years was the identification of Jews with revolution and communism. While it is true that many leading communists were of Jewish origin, not many of the Jews were communists. But the visible role of newly empowered Jews in the upheavals after the First World War seemed to confirm the truth of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion". After World War II, the myth persisted mainly in East Central Europe, where the masses resented the Soviet occupation. Meanwhile, the communists developed the myth of a Zionist anti-communist conspiracy and expelled Jewish functionaries from the party; communist Poland forced most of its Jews to emigrate.
