Abstract:
Surveys nationalist ideology, which often leads to antisemitism. For example, discusses a pamphlet written in 1870 by Jan Neruda, a Czech nationalist, explaining that growing Jewish influence is a danger for the Czech nation, and proposing liberation from "Jewish-controlled" commerce and finance. In Russia and in Islamic countries, nationalism was also linked to antisemitism and led to persecution and pogroms. Racism, too, is a result of nationalist ideology. Mentions Austrian nationalism, linked with violent antisemitism from ca. 1880 on, which guided Hitler in his antisemitic worldview.
