Abstract:
Gives details of antisemitic laws enacted between 1940-44 by the fascist government in Bulgaria. They included a tax on Jewish property, deprivation of political, civil, and economic rights for Jews, removal of Jewish males to labor camps, imposition of the yellow badge, and the order to deport 20,000 Jews to Poland which was not carried out. When the anti-fascist party, the Fatherland Front, came to power in September 1944, the antisemitic laws were gradually repealed. Pp. 248-269 give the texts of the laws of repeal and a 1948 report by the head of the Bulgarian Jewish community, David Yeroham, on the situation of the Jews after September 1944.
