Kurzfassung:
Discusses the Vatican document "We Remember: A Reflection on the Shoah". States that despite some positive expressions, such as the one that acknowledges the Holocaust as an overwhelming event which still influences the present (a statement which can help in the struggle against Holocaust denial), in general the document is unfavorable toward the Jews. It depicts a false symmetry between Christian hostility toward Jews and Jewish dislike for Christians; distinguishes between institutional ecclesiastical anti-Judaism, which is not blamed for the Holocaust, and antisemitism of individual Christians; describes the Church and its leadership as victims of Nazism, and Pope Pius XII as a defender of the Jewish people; and draws attention to genocide-like events and to the current dispute over Palestine. Views the document as an attempt to completely exonerate the Church from any responsibility for what happened in the Holocaust, as well as "Christianize" the Holocaust and deny its uniqueness.
