Abstract:
Despite Mussolini's official declarations in 1932 denying the existence of antisemitism in Italy and discriminatory policies toward Jews, the fact is that from the same year Jewish scholars were excluded from the Accademia d'Italia because of their religion. This was the case with the Jewish archaeologist Alessandro Della Seta, who for two consecutive years received first place in the internal elections to the Academy, but was never accepted due to Mussolini's veto. Notes the early existence of an anti-Jewish policy in the Academy, which began in 1929 and increased between 1932-33. The appendix contains facsimiles of documents.
