Kurzfassung:
A study of the Aryanization and confiscation of four Jewish brothels in France between 1940-44. The bordellos, situated in Lorient, Paris, and Marseille, had Jewish owners. The number of Jewish prostitutes in France is not known. Describes the activities of the Jewish procurors, one of whom, Sultana Boariz, was deported to Auschwitz in January 1943. Shows that Jewish brothels, despite persistent myths about Jewish prostitution and procuring, were identical to similar houses in France. As opposed to other small Jewish businesses, the brothels were not liquidated; two of them continued to function under non-Jewish owners throughout the war and two were destroyed in bombings.
