Abstract: Jewish life has always changed, but nowhere has this been more evident than in the area of interfaith marriages. They have always occurred, but more so today than ever before. At first the Jewish community reacted with hurt and hostility, but gradually realised that this was not only failing to have any impact on the growing trend, but was depriving itself of those who might otherwise have stayed within its ranks. The result has been a gradual thawing of attitudes that has led to major changes in all areas of cycle of life rituals, from birth to bar/batmitzvah to betrothal to burial. Although there are some sections of the community that still resist any such outreach, the overall outcome has been a much more inclusive approach.
