Abstract:
Traces the origins of the Sánchez family in Zaragoza, where members of the family held high-ranking financial positions. The head of the family converted to Catholicism in 1389. Describes the family's history and positions in Sicily, where Eulalia's husband, Don Aloysio Sánchez, was a prominent banker and was placed in charge of Fernando II's revenues, especially Jewish wealth left behind after the expulsion in 1492. Also follows the establishment of the Inquisition in Sicily in 1487. Doña Eulalia, who was interrogated by the Inquisition in 1487 and again in 1504, was still alive in 1513 - i.e. she was not burned at the stake. Concludes that, as in Spain, Sicilian Conversos from high-ranking families could not really be harmed by the Inquisition.
