Abstract: In April 1997, at the 53rd session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, representatives of some Islamic countries demanded censorship of the report submitted by the Special Rapporteur on Racism, Maurice Glélé-Ahanhanzo, because, from their viewpoint, the sub-section "Islamist and Arab Anti-Semitism" contained blasphemous references to Islam and the Qur'an. Examination of anti-Jewish pronouncements made by some Arabs and Islamists shows, however, that besides Christian and secular European antisemitic motifs (such as the blood libel and the world Jewish conspiracy accusation), they also use the Qur'an as a primary anti-Jewish source. Due to the intervention, the report was censored. Points out the dangers of censorship at the United Nations.
Note: An abridged version appeared in "Midstream" 44,2 (1998). Appeared also in "The Myth of Islamic Tolerance" (2005).
