Abstract:
Describes the establishment of a concentration and forced labor camp on the ruins of the Warsaw ghetto. The majority of the few thousand inmates were Jews from Greece and Hungary transferred from Auschwitz or who arrived with the latest transports of deportees. The main task of the prisoners was to finish the demolition of the buildings and to clean the ground in order to create a park in place of the liquidated ghetto. In April 1944 the camp became formally an annex of Majdanek. In July 1944 a major death march began to Kutno, in which thousands were murdered. The Polish uprising of August 1944 liberated several hundred Jewish prisoners. Part of them joined the Polish forces in the fighting. Pp. 108-114 contain documents.
