Abstract:
Discusses the influence of Heidegger on Paul Celan's poetry and on his conception of language. Relates to two postwar meetings between Celan and Heidegger, and Celan's disappointment with the philosopher - provoked by Heidegger's political involvement with the Nazis during the Nazi regime in Germany and his subsequent silence, even when meeting with Celan. Focuses on the perception of the Holocaust in Celan's poetry and his philosophical dilemma regarding his writing in the German language, as he said "the language of the Nazis, the language of torture, a language that is not innocent of the Nazi horrors".
