Discusses the importance of the anti-Jewish theme in Polish political thought since the early 1880s, against the background of similar tendencies in other countries. The first antisemitic newspaper was "Rola". Describes its founder and editor Jan Jeleński (1845-1909), who at first pleaded for assimilation of the Jews and later abandoned this idea. Analyzes, as well, writings of other contributors to "Rola" (e.g. Konstanty Wzdulski, Teodor Jeske-Choiński). They developed the idea of the Jew as an "internal enemy" who was dominating and endangering Poland. Stresses that "Rola"'s antisemitic ideas were later shared by positivist writers and, after 1906, by Endecja. Altogether, it played an important role in Polish society. Underlines the importance of antisemitism in understanding Polish history, and denies that antisemitism in Poland was of "foreign influence".
