Abstract:
Presents a definition of antisemitism proposed by the Expert Group on Problems of Antisemitism under the auspices of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Former Soviet Union Committee. Obsolete, out-of-date definitions of antisemitism help its bearers evade responsibility for it. The Expert Group defined antisemitism as a negative attitude toward Jews as an ethnic and/or religious community, as well as toward individuals on the grounds of their real or imaginary belonging to this community. Advocates distinguishing politically-motivated antisemitism from non-ideological Judeophobia. Notes that, while the latter is at a low ebb in the former USSR, the former is on the rise. Proposes definitions of some related concepts, like state antisemitism, socio-political antisemitism, and so on.
