"This volume presents for the first time in English the surviving fragments of the Books of Commandments of Ḥakham Binyamin al-Nahawandi and Ḥakham Daniel al-Kumisi. These individuals were two outstanding figures who shaped the growing Karaite movement in the 9th century CE. There no longer exist any manuscripts of the complete Books of Commandments... This volume is, instead, a colleciton of the passages in which later Karaite scholars quoted from these respective Books of Commandments. The excerpts were originally compiled by... Albert (Abraham) Harkavy, who published them in St. Petersburg in 1903." -- Introduction.
