Abstract:
Examines the sources for Llull's polemical works, showing that his statements on Islamic beliefs about Jesus originated in Arab Christian polemics against Islam, such as the "Apology of al-Kindi" and "Contrarietas alfolica". Analyzes Llull's method of argumentation (his "Art") in his "Liber de fine" and his "Liber praedicationis contra Iudaeos" (1305), in which he combined apologetics with texts by scriptural authorities. In his preachings to Muslims and Jews, aimed at their conversion, Llull applied Old Testament verses to arguments meant to prove the truth and superiority of Christianity.
