Abstract:
Discusses various aspects of Katzenelson's personality, including his strong identification with Judaism. He was able to write Holocaust poetry in the Warsaw ghetto even after his wife and children were deported to Treblinka, but his poetry took the form of lamentations. He wrote about the "hidden face" of God and His sadness, and accused the Nazis of attempting to annihilate the spirit of God that existed among the Jewish people.
