Abstract:
On Eugen Relgis, pseudonym of Eisig Sigler (1895-1987), a Romanian Jewish writer, publicist, philosopher, a pacifist and a militant anarchist, who became known as a theorist of humanitarianism. He survived the Holocaust in Romania, but left the country in 1947, when it was taken over by the Communists. He settled in Montevideo, Uruguay, where he developed a new career as a writer (in Spanish), a lecturer and a translator. Relgis was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1956 by several members of the Japanese Parliament.
