Abstract:
Analyzes, on the basis of notarial and royal chancellery documents, the organization and economic activity of the Jewish community of Jaca around the time of the Tortosa disputation. Pp. 227-236 describe the historical context of Christian-Jewish relations: following the Tortosa disputation and Vicente Ferrer's visit to Jaca, there were a series of restrictive regulations sanctioned by Benedict XIII's papal bull in September-October 1414 which tightened the segregation of the Jews, imposed the yellow badge, and abruptly limited Jewish trade and usury. The Jewish community was able to fight back and negotiate with the King of Aragón for a series of concessions and derogations, granted in a memorandum of April 1419. The rest of the article relates to the economic situation and structure of the Jewish community.
