Abstract:
Arendt and Kofman were philosophers whose thinking was affected by their biographies, as women and as Holocaust survivors. The Holocaust caused them to realize their identity as Jewish women. Argues that the insistence in their philosophy on the "erasure of biography" (in Derrida’s words) is responsible for the inability of their philosophy to both confront the Holocaust and to overcome the exclusion of women.
