Kurzfassung:
Discusses National Socialist ideology as expressed in Hitler's "Mein Kampf" - the place of Germany in European history, issues of German identity, and the place of the Jews in German society. The Jews were described as the greatest enemy of the German people. Notes the sources of this ideology in 19th-20th century currents of thought in regard to German consciousness - e.g. discussion of the "Volk", of the essence ("Wesen") of Germanness, and of forces which are a threat to the nation. Emphasizes that post-1919 German society was largely conservative, not prepared for democracy, and the people had need of a leader, a "Führer". Relates to the totalitarianism of the Third Reich under the rule of Hitler's will, which led to the obedience of the population and made possible the execution of the Final Solution.
