Abstract:
Deplores the exclusion of Jewish folklore from German folklore research. This research has, since the Romantic period, always been "völkisch", refusing to see the Jews as part of the German "Volk". It focuses on the common people in rural regions and is opposed to the urbanization and modernization with which the Jews are identified. While ignoring folklore of the Jews, it transmits folklore about the Jews, without criticizing the antisemitic stereotype of the Jew as he appears in this folklore. The trend came to a peak under Nazism, but has continued to the present; states that it is time for a change.
