Kurzfassung:
Discusses the 1998 German film "Aimée und Jaguar", directed by Max Färberböck and based on the book "Aimée und Jaguar: Eine Liebesgeschichte Berlin 1943", by Erica Fischer. Concludes that, unlike its source, the film minimizes the historical aspect of the Jewish victim's fate by focusing on the lesbian relationship between the German woman and her Jewish lover, whom she succeeds in protecting temporarily in her Berlin home. The film's focus also simplifies the rescuer's ambivalent relationship with Nazism. Its commercial appeal links it with other recent German films that present feel-good portrayals of wartime Germany.
