Abstract:
Analyzes the image of Polish partisans in testimonies of Jewish survivors who were either members of partisan groups or who only observed their actions while in hiding. Discusses attitudes toward Jews of the underground military formations, such as the Home Army, the Peasants' Batallions, the National Army Forces, the People's Guard and socialist groups against the background of the political struggle between those who backed an independent Poland after the war and pro-Soviet partisans. Examines various aspects of relationship, such as when the Polish partisans knew that their comrades in arms were Jewish and when they did not know. Presents cases of killing of Jews and cases of help extended to them. The writers of the testimonies present the Home Army partisan groups as generally hostile to the Jews. It was only in the socialist and People's Guard military groups in which the Jews could feel safe.
