Abstract:
The Holocaust was among the factors that moved both the Catholic and Protestant Churches to revise their relations with the Jews. Many new initiatives have been undertaken by churches, lay groups, and theologians in Germany and worldwide that seek to bring about reconciliation between Jews and Christians. There are, however, some troubling issues that divide the two communities, such as the question of a Christian mission among the Jews, Christian participation in the Nazi forced labor program, the proposed canonization of Pope Pius XII, and mounting antisemitic violence in Germany. The German government, and citizens as well, are beginning to take action against neo-Nazis and antisemites.
