Abstract:
Describes five drawings by the Jewish Romanian prisoner Jean Bartischan, born in 1919 in Nagyvárad. He was deported from Drancy to Auschwitz in March 1944 and transferred to the Golleschau sub-camp in April. The prisoners worked in the cement factory, in nearby stone quarries, and in laying railway tracks. These labors are depicted in the drawings. When the cement factory was destroyed in the 1990s, the walls with the drawings were transferred to the Auschwitz Museum where they are now on exhibit. The fate of Bartischan is not known.
