Abstract:
Sven Hoffgaard (b. 1895), a Danish Jewish banker from Copenhagen, was captured by the Gestapo, along with his wife and two daughters, attempting to escape to Sweden in late 1943. Hoffgaard was sent to Sachsenhausen, and his wife and daughters to Theresienstadt. He was put to work in the project to forge British banknotes. During his captivity he managed to write two small diaries; he was the only Danish Jew to participate in this project. In the beginning of 1945, Hoffgaard and others were deported to Mauthausen and then to the forced labor camp in Ebensee. The entire family survived the war.
