Abstract:
Shlomit Weksler-Bdolah’s book devoted to the archaeology of Aelia Capitolina, published in 2020 (Aelia Capitolina – Jerusalem in the Roman Period, Brill Publishers), offers a complete synthesis of the latest archaeological research on Roman Jerusalem (from the destruction of the temple until the middle of the 5th century). In this article, his main results are presented as well as his original ideas, notably concerning the location of the legionary camp in the upper city and the cultic layout of the temple esplanade from the time of the Roman takeover of Jerusalem; they are then discussed by the author of the article in the light of his own research published concomitantly (in February 2020) in a work entitled La topographie de la Jérusalem antique, 2e s. av. – 2e s. ap. J.-C. (Peeters Publishers).
