Abstract:
Based on material in the Yad Vashem archives, presents a new interpretation of the motives of Werner Best for organizing the action against the Jews in Denmark in September 1943. Contends that his action was motivated by his wish to gain personal power. Discusses, also, the attempts to save the Danish Jews on the part of Denmark, Sweden, and the Jewish Agency in Palestine. Their efforts benefited the Danish Jews and also the Danish resistance movement.
