Abstract:
The article explores the historical events relating to the Portuguese converso migration to England during the 18th-century and its portrayal in literary works by writers. Topics discussed include an essay by author Michael Geddes on Portuguese Jew who was imprisoned at the hands of the Inquisition, and the parallels between the inquisitorial persecution of conversos in 18th-century Portugal and the challenges faced by Jews in Great Britain highlighted by Jewish author Grace Aguilar.
