Abstract:
A collection of documents (pp. 93-150) from the Hungarian Jewish Archives in Budapest on the period from the German occupation until the beginning of the deportations. Pp. 85-92 introduce recently discovered documents of the Central Jewish Council of Hungary, which was ordered by the authorities shortly after the Nazi occupation to compile information about the Jewish communities, including the Hungarian-annexed Slovak and Transylvanian territories. Describes the card-index which summarized the data forwarded by each community, mentioning the religious affiliation of the congregation, the names of the paid officials, the number of community members, communal institutions (schools, relief organizations, religious services), etc. Pp. 93-150 include examples of letters sent by the Central Jewish Council to those communities and some of the replies, as well as the content of cards pertaining to ca. 100 communities.
