Abstract:
The chapter opens with a description of “the Semitic family of languages”, then describes characteristically Semitic facets of Hebrew morphology with reference to the consonantal root, the pronominal, nominal, and verbal systems, and the lexicon. It concludes with comments on the controversial status of MH, viewed by some as an independent “Ísraeli” as against a language still closely affiliated with its Semitic roots.
