Abstract:
Farrakhan began to preach antisemitism in 1984, and immediately became a media star, and thus his stature among the Blacks rose. A recurring ploy was Farrakhan's comparison of the Black experience in the USA to the Holocaust. In 1991, the Nation of Islam published "The Secret Relationship between Blacks and Jews, " an antisemitic booklet blaming the Jews for the slave trade. It is the desperate social situation of the Blacks which nourishes the anti-White discourse of the Nation of Islam, and antisemitism is only part of the anti-White phenomenon. Black culture is permeated with negative views on the Jews. It is easier to single out the Jews for attack than it is to attack the entire White community; and it also gives publicity to Farrakhan because of a higher sensitivity of Jews to accusations of racism. Not many leaders, Black or non-Black, have distanced themselves from Farrakhan and his views in a straightforward way.
