Abstract:
Examines the biographies of some Jews who were part of the economic life in Italy, in order to analyze common characteristics of those individuals who, from the 19th century on, influenced Italian entrepreneurial activities and capitalism. They were persecuted due to the fascist Racial Laws, despite the fact that some of them abandoned Judaism, converted to Christianity, or cancelled their names from the Jewish community registers. Their intense nationalistic feelings, and even their adhesion to fascism, seem to be a peculiar characteristic of these personalities, despite also in these fields it is difficult to trace a unitary picture. The conclusion is that we have to abandon the usual stereotypes of a general attitude of Jews to affair, and analyze objective elements such as level of education and analphabetism in the Jewish and non-Jewish population during the same period.
