Abstract:
A look at contemporary Hebrew drama from the perspective of three different stages of its development, supported by examples of works from three periods: the so-called the new yishuv and the formation of the State of Israel (Ha-adama ha-zot by Aharon Ashman), the first decades of Israeli statehood (Kazablan by Igal Mosinzon) and the most recent times (Haya o lo haya by Edna Mazya). An attempt to outline the main directions of development of Hebrew drama in terms of the issues raised, with particular emphasis on references to Eretz-Israeli myths and stereotypes, such as the myth of the "new Hebrew" proudly dying for his homeland, ethnic stereotypes within the multicultural Israeli society or the myth of Tel Aviv - "the city of miracles".
