Abstract:
Many Jews survived the war by fleeing from Poland and the Baltic States into the interior of the Soviet Union, areas which were not occupied by the Germans. Some were aided by border guards and some were refused entry at the border; some were aided by local authorities, but there was no general national plan to save Jews per se. States that is difficult to measure how many Jews were saved, but posits the number was 1-1.5 million.
