Abstract:
This article presents a biography of Cyrus the Great, the eagle coming from North promising ageneral reform of the society soon after the end of the power and arrogance of Babylon. It isunderlined that the Cyrus oracles of DeuteroIsaiah contribute, through narrative formulas similarto those found in the Cyrus Cylinder, to trace the evolution of the figure of the Persian king, fromsoldier to man of peace. At the same time, the oracles foster his acceptance into the Jewish gôlâ,thanks in particular to his famous Edict which permitted the return of the Jews from theBabylonian exile. Cleverly guided by DeuteroIsaiah, a lot of deportees let themselves bepersuaded that Cyrus was indeed the man of Providence, in the hope that the temple would berebuilt and that Judah would live at last in peace
