Abstract:
Discusses a debate in West Germany aroused by the publication of a special issue of "Ästhetik und Kommunikation" (June 1983) entitled "Deutsche, Linke, Juden". Describes the articles in that issue, which reflect the anger of young left-wing activists at having to bear the responsibility for the deeds of their fathers, as well as their resentment against the Jews. States that the latter view clearly enunciates left-wing antisemitism, particularly as expressed by one of the editors, Eberhard Knödler-Bunte. In her response to this article (pp. 195-199), Marion Kaplan condemns the historical ignorance of Knödler-Bunte and his use of anti-Jewish stereotypes.
