Abstract:
First presented as a paper at the 38th annual conference of the Association for Jewish Studies, San Diego, CA, December 2006.
Abstract:
The Holocaust asserts a major influence on Jewish-Christian relations in the USA and worldwide. Believes that continuing Jewish survival has become increasingly dependent upon the knowledge of Jews and Judaism by Christians, and in particular upon their knowledge of the Shoah. Describes a brief survey on this issue, conducted by Jacobs in Alabama with eight clergymen of various denominations. The interviewees had some basic knowledge of the Holocaust and used stories of the Shoah in their sermons; however, this was a result of their personal interest and reading on the topic. Calls for developing more creative educational programs in concert with various Christian denominational communities that are ready to dialogue with Jews.
