Abstract:
Examines the connection between historical events of the Holocaust and the literary imagination in literary works by Holocaust survivors (e.g. Elie Wiesel, Avraham Sutzkever, Aharon Appelfeld, Paul Celan). States that the extent to which the Holocaust enters the imagination of the reader (to be assimilated and remembered) may be a function of how successful both historians and storytellers (or, historians as storytellers and storytellers as historians) are in refamiliarizing it in their respective cultural contexts.
