Abstract:
As one of the most influential writers in the history of Jewish law, R.Joseph Karo's work process is especially interesting. This article uses hishermeneutic text referring to Maimonides in different books, as a toolenabling us to answer chronological questions, and understand his workprocess. The work Kesef Mishneh, written by R. Joseph Karo, wasprinted for the first time as a commentary on Maimonides' MishnehTorah in the 1570's, and became one of the main commentators learnedroutinely. Much discussion about Maimonides work was also part ofKaro's Beit Yosef, his great halakhic essay published about twenty yearsearlier, and so is the case in his corrections to his Magnum opus, printeddecades later as Bedek HaBayit. The relationship between the variouspassages written by R. Joseph Karo on the same paragraphs ofMaimonides in his different works, and the chronology of the creation ofthe various works that can be demonstrated by doing so, are the focus ofthis article.
