Abstract:
Analyzes the language used to describe Jews in four French newspapers - "L'Aurore", "Libération", "L'Humanité", and "Le Matin" - in October 1980, following the terrorist attack on the synagogue in the rue Copernic in Paris. Relates to use of economic terminology and religious terminology to denigrate Jews, to show the Jew as a victim and as the guilty party, and the deliberate non-use of the term "antisemitism" for the deadly attack.
