Abstract:
Refers to a 68-page Hebrew manuscript written by an Istanbul Jew (found in the Bodleian Library) describing the fate of the Jews during the troubled period following the Sultan's deposition. Upheavals led to an attempt by Sipahis - Balkan-Christian conscripts - to attack the Jews by plundering, persecution, and extortion. However, other groups refused to take part and the Jews were saved. The Sipahis instigated a blood libel on the eve of Passover, but a Muslim court cleared the Jews.
