Abstract:
According to the files of the Portuguese Inquisition in Coimbra, the Capela dos Prazeres, a chapel in the church of Bragança, was donated by Rodrigo Lopes, a Converso condemned by the Inquisition, and not by the Figueiredo family, as stated by the extant inscription. The Inquisition tribunal of Coimbra, which had turned its zeal mainly against Judaizers, tried and condemned many members of the Lopes family, including Rodrigo's daughter who had married a Figueiredo. The Inquisition induced many Old Christians to cease their widespread interactions and relations with New Christians, whose conversion was not regarded as sincere.
