Abstract:
Discusses the demonization and stereotyping of Israel, Zionism, and Judaism in the Arab media. Arab antisemitism is relatively new, having begun with the Arab-Israeli conflict. It has adopted many of the characteristics of Christian European antisemitism, such as belief in a Jewish world conspiracy, and given them an Islamic twist. The Arab-Israeli conflict, which was initially territorial and national, has become a historical and cultural conflict between Islam and the West. Arab antisemitism includes Holocaust denial; many of its motifs are taken from neo-Nazi ideology. A small number of Arab intellectuals oppose Holocaust denial; they argue that greater awareness of the Holocaust will foster a better understanding of the Palestinians' plight.
