Abstract:
In January 1946, some one hundred 15-16-year-olds were brought from the Bergen-Belsen DP camp to an estate in Blankenese, a suburb of Hamburg. The estate, which had been expropriated by the Nazis in the 1930s, belonged to the Warburg family. The property was given to the AJDC who established a children's home which served in 1946-1948 as a base and transit point for some 300 young survivors who were trying to immigrate to Eretz Israel.
